Waller Creek Conversations – Food!

February 22 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm - Free

Waller Creek Conservancy, together with the City of Austin, broke ground in Sept. 2017 on the Waller Creek chain of parks. The parks will be active places for all of Austin to enjoy and that includes food. Two public feedback sessions will be held next month on Thursday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 24 to collect the community’s input on what food options and experiences are preferred.

Through a series of interactive activities, attendees will have the opportunity to share comments on their preferred dining experience and menu. Attendees will also hear a project update on Waterloo Park, which is currently under construction.

Community members may also provide feedback through an electronic survey later this month at wallercreek.org.

“Food brings us together and cultivates our sense of community and togetherness,” said Mayor Pro Tem Kathie Tovo, who represents City Council District 9. “These meetings will provide opportunities for Austinites to discuss their visions for how Waterloo Park can serve the diverse interests and tastes of our city.”

Food and refreshments will be served and activities for children will be provided. Attendees can enjoy a free food tasting and cooking demonstration. Spanish interpretation will be available at the Saturday meeting.

“Waller Creek and the incredible spaces that will surround it must be welcoming and available to everyone,” said Council Member Ora Houston, who represents Council District 1. “I appreciate so much the ongoing intentions and efforts made by the Waller Creek Conservancy to ensure that all tribes and people will be reflected and welcomed in Waterloo Park and the parks and green spaces south of here along Waller Creek.”

Voter registration will be offered by the League of Women Voters. In addition, Waller Creek Conservancy will be collecting food donations at both public meeting sessions, benefiting the Central Texas Food Bank. “I grew up playing along Waller Creek and have so many memories of it being a place where our community can relax and have fun—I can’t wait for us to have that again,” said Council Member Sabino “Pio” Renteria, who represents Council District 3. “I encourage my fellow Austinites to come out to these meetings and share your feedback, let’s work together to make this a one-of-a-kind experience.”
