Afro Caribbean Soul Collective 8:30
Roland and The Roots Riddim 10pm
*The Afro-Caribbean Soul Collective is a vibrantly diverse cultural arts group that seeks to practice, share, and learn the drum, music, language, and dance styles of the Caribbean and Latin America. Afro-Latin aesthetics and movements are at the center of both their social and traditional dancing. The Collective works to bring respected instructors and teachers to Austin to share their knowledge of rueda casino, rumba cubana, culture, percussion, and various folkloric art forms.
*Roland & The Roots Riddim band was born March 19th, 2013 in Austin, Texas. On that day, a group of talented musicians, all lovers of Reggae music, played music together for the first time. From the first note they shared, the musical chemistry was obvious to every band member.
In addition to being a high energy front-man, a powerful singer, a multi-instrumentalist and a songwriter, he is also a published author, certified life coach and an in-demand speaker. Born into a tribal village in Liberia, Roland was discarded on a dump-pile as a baby. He struggled through poverty, abuses, and a violent civil war utilizing remarkable gifts of strength and perseverance.
Though very early in its musical journey, Roland & The Roots Riddim is establishing itself in the Austin music scene as an entertaining, danceable, authentic roots reggae band with the potential to grow into a regional and national act.
*Zoumountchi plays a blend of traditional West African Music, Afrobeat, Afropop, and Reggae. Traditional instruments such as the djembe, the balafon, and the kora are featured together with the modern drum set, the electric bass, the sax and the trumpet. Zoumountchi is founded on the principles of Positive Psychology. “We are a Movement of People who believe that we can shape our life and maximize happiness!”
