The New Deal first began in Toronto in 1999, and came up through the American Jam scene in the decade that followed. Since the theNEWDEAL’s beginning, it has been hard to categorize this band, which shows in the wide range of artists that they have played with (Everyone from Herbie Hancock to the Roots, from Moby to Fatboy Slim). A long-time staple of the Jam scene, theNEWDEAL’s improvisational interpretation of Electro House, Trance, Breakbeat and Drum & Bass has brought traditionally electronic music to the live music scene, adding a “human element” and vibrance that can sometimes get lost in the sea of computerized perfection.

With over 1400 legendary late nights, sold-out clubs and triumphant festivals under their belts, theNEWDEAL returns with a passion in 2015. Recently released tracks “Mercury Switch” and “Sabotage the System” offer a preview of their upcoming fall studio release which bassist Dan Kurtz describes as their “most creative” endeavor to date.

For more than a decade pianist Marco Benevento has been amassing an extensive resume of composition and collaboration. His albums set forth a vision that connects the dots between Explosions in the Skyand Tortoise on one side, Brian Eno and Brad Mehldau on the other.

In 2014, Benevento returned to the studio to begin work on his next album with producer Richard Swift whose work includes The Shins, Foxygen and Tennis. Together, they’ll focus their attention on a collection of news songs Benevento has written that expand upon his lush instrumental piano rock to include vocals.
