EVENT FULL – Sunset at the South Austin Volcano

August 5 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Ground rules: As this is a preserve, no dogs are allowed, even if leashed. No-shows and last-minute cancellations won’t hike with me again.

Trail: this is a short (easy) but up-and-down (moderate) dirt trail, half shaded. The trail overlooks Blunn Creek, and leads to a volcano with informational signage. Yes, South Austin has an old volcano!

How far, how long: Two miles max, no more than an hour. Sunset this date is 8:21 p.m., but we’ll be on our way out by then.

Meeting point: Park on St. Edward’s Drive, but please don’t park directly in front of the trailhead. Our trailhead is across the street from the Brothers of the Holy Cross facility, 4/10 mile from I-35. The trailhead is the second entrance to the park from I-35, so if you’re not directly across from the Brothers building, you’re in the wrong place. Look for a silver Kia and a mostly-masked guy who looks just like me.

Personal prep: Come well hydrated. Walking shoes will be fine.
