SFC’s Gone Wild: Homemade Sauerkraut

Fermentation is one of the oldest and easiest ways to preserve food. Naturally fermented foods have an added bonus: their live probiotic cultures are very good for you! In this class, Sustainable Food Center Farmers’ Market vendor Boulanger Fermentations will show you how to make homemade fermented sauerkraut. You will learn the stages of fermentation, troubleshooting common problems, and how to store your sauerkraut when it is ready.
A quart-size jar and an air-lock pickle cap are included in the price of this class, so you can take your newly started sauerkraut home with you and watch it ferment!
This is a hands-on class, so please dress appropriately for the kitchen (closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothes, hair tie for long hair, etc.).
We will sample sauerkraut, but it will not be a complete meal.
Class participants must be 16 and older. Youth ages 12-15 may attend with purchase of an additional ticket and close parent/guardian supervision during class.
Registration closes two business days before class. All attendees must purchase tickets to attend. No walk-ins allowed.
* All payments are final and non-refundable. However, we would be happy to transfer your spot in this class to someone else if you cannot attend.
