San Marcos’ Mermaid Parade & Splash Party!

Join us for the SMTX Mermaid Parade & SPLASH festival!
Starting at 10 am, the downtown parade will feature floats, marchers, music and “all things San Marcos.”Leading the Mermaid Parade is Austin Samba and Las Monas de San Antonio bringing their brand of “radical creativity, fantasy, and imagination” to the parade with a sizzling combination of rhythm, dance, movement, color, joy and . . . giant mermaid puppets! What would a Mermaid Parade be without mermaids?Good thing we won’t have to wonder. Sirenalia Mermaids will make their debut in the Mermaid Parade! Don’t miss your chance to meet a mermaid and have your picture taken with one during the Mermaid SPLASH Festival to help raise funds for the Eyes of the San Marcos River.
Grand Marshals – Billy Ray and Beverly Mangham, Artists, Teachers and Owners of Eye of the Dog .Art Center. The Manghams have been chosen to represent the art community of San Marcos.
Julie Balkman, Owner of Wake the Dead Coffee House – Ms. Balkman is being recognized as a leader in the Entrepreneurial Community.
Dr. Mario Garza, Founder and Maria Rocha, Executive Director of Indigenous Cultures Institute. Dr. Garza and Ms. Rocha are being recognized as leaders in the preservation of the heritage of the Indigenous Community of San Marcos.
Derrick Lee, Zach Halfin and Nathan Lawrence, Co-founders of The Eyes of the San Marcos River. This team is being recognized as leaders in the protection and preservation of the San Marcos River.
After the parade, head over to San Marcos Plaza Park for The Mermaid SPLASH which starts at 1pm!
The culmination of Mermaid Week SMTX is The Mermaid Splash. The San Marcos River serves as the beautiful backdrop to this fun filled FREE festival that has something for Merfolk of all ages. Listen to live music throughout the day while relaxing at this family fun-filled event. All things San Marcos…SPLASH stands for Stewardship, Preservation, Local, Art, Sustainability and Heritage.
Festival-goers will learn about conservation stewardship at the Eco Village and take part in the variety of interactive activities planned for the whole family; to include hands-on workshops, scheduled presentations by environmental experts and art inspired learning projects for everyone.
Shop at the Artisan Alley, a juried art market representing a wide selection of artwork in different mediums, including ceramics, glasswork, metalwork, photography, wood, jewelry, sculpture, painting, upscale/recycle, and mixed media. Take a seat at the festival’s Communal Table and meet neighbors and new friends while you enjoy culinary foods from a variety of food trucks. For retail therapy, shop for all things Mermaid and then some at this curated pop-up market featuring select retailers from the surrounding area. Choose from fairtrade, organic and holistic products and services.
King of SPLASH – Chris Rue. Mr. Rue leads by example and epitomizes the spirit of Mermaid Society SMTX. A co-creator for community building and goodwill Mr. Rue is a San Marcos favorite.
