Nic Armstrong / Outskirts
June 25, 2016 @ 9:00 pm
“An Austin, Texas-based Englishman with an eclectic retro-pop palette, Nic Armstrong and his band the Thieves pair Beatlesque melodies with bluesy American trad rock and vintage Kinks, Who, and Rolling Stones-inspired guitar riffage. Born in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Armstrong spent his formative years immersed in music and art, eventually moving to Nottingham to further his studies. After submitting a demo recording to a nationwide talent competition organized by the magazine Dazed & Confused, Armstrong landed a recording contract with One Little Indian, which would go on to issue his debut long-player, The Greatest White Liar, in 2004.
Outskirts is a female fronted four-piece band from Austin, TX. Their sound is influenced by Psycho-Billy, Roots Rock, Flamenco, Bluegrass, Pop-Rock, Motown and Blues to name a few. It is Outlaw Americana with compelling lead vocals and three-part harmonies that will melt your soul. The songs are very upbeat and driving with cohesive structure, seductive lead guitar, and catchy melodies that you can’t get out of your head. The band is fun to watch, with high energy and a ton of expression; don’t be surprised to see some head bangin’ and jolts of passion while they are on stage.
