June 24, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - June 26, 2016 @ 2:00 pm

PLEASE NOTE: A SPACE PROGRAM will be shown twice: Friday June 24th at 8PM and Sunday June 26th at 2PM

Directed by Van Neistat
USA, 2015, DCP, 72 min

Not only a documentation of an art exhibit, this is also a very witty parody of educational films and television. The art piece in question is Tom Sachs’ intricate, homemade and amusing gallery-wide simulation of a working Mars mission. It becomes desperately funny thanks to the project’s perverse details such as: Irish whiskey and Adderall consumption throughout, breakout Eames-style documentary modules that explain the use of plywood, epoxy and the circular saw, the use of an Atari game to simulate the landing (this is more exciting than it sounds), the use of several perfect music choices (Tangerine Dream and James Brown are both employed to great effect), and the inclusion of surreal details like a Japanese tea ceremony aboard the lander and a romantic candlelight dinner aboard ship for the two astronauts. Very, very funny and beautiful in its special way.
