High Noon Talk: The Cedar Choppers

October 3 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm - Free

Held on the first Wednesday of every month, High Noon Talks highlight interesting and often untold topics through this casual lunch-time lecture.

The Cedar Choppers: Life on the Edge of Nothing is an entertaining dive into the history of a people with roots in Appalachia who settled on the west side of the Balcones Fault during the mid-19th century. The emergence of Austin as a major metropolitan area, especially after the 1950s, soon brought the cedar choppers and their hillbilly lifestyle into direct confrontation with a gentrified urban population. Join author Ken Roberts for a talk on the cedar choppers, their clans, their culture and a way of life that is rapidly disappearing.
