COTFG: Foot Patrol Workshop – the Blind Sign Live at Salvage Vanguard Theater
April 24, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Foot Patrol – The Blind Sign – 8:00pm & 9:00pm | Sunday, April 24th
at Salvage Vanguard Theater (Studio theater) | 2803 E Manor Rd. Austin, TX 78722
The Blind Sign is a new musical project featuring TJ Wade, from the Austin foot funk band Foot Patrol and D Madness, from Temple Underground, Thermostat, D Madness Project, et al. The Blind Sign is a fictional video game from the 8 bit and 16 bit eras of gaming. The goal of the game is to find the Blind Sign in order to enter Funk Land. Since it’s in Braille, only blind people can read the sign.
Composed entirely by TJ Wade, the soundtrack to the game is presented live in total darkness. By removing the visual element of the music performance, the audience may be able to enjoy a whole new listening experience. In a world of such technological pervasiveness and the constant stimulation of our senses, it is refreshing to simply hear music for what it is, without any distractions.
The project features the virtuosic stylings of two blind musical prodigies meeting again for the first time in twenty years, when they first struck up a musical conversation in the 1990’s at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
Foot Patrol front man TJ Wade, is blind musical prodigy whose unparalleled keyboard virtuosity rightly places him in the same column as Ray and Stevie, but whose singular talent for samples, unforgettable riffs and creative vocalizing — not to mention a lifelong foot love — moves him into a formidable niche entirely his own. Wade has worked with D’Wayne Wiggins of Tony! Toni! Toné! as well as Keshia Cole, Krucial Keys, Alicia Keys and the legendary Sun Ra Arkestra.
D-Madness is a multi-instumentalist who has played music all over the world. He lives and works his ass off in Austin, Texas. Along with his own D-Madness Project he also performs with: 10YR, Thermostat, The D-Madness Experiment, The Finest Kind, Tribal Nation, Symbolyc One “S1″, Temple Underground, Brennen Temple, Neckbone, Bavu Blakes and the Xtra Plairs, Mambo Sauce, Diasporic, Shanty Town Underground, Serpentine, Killer Bees, Mojoe Family, Root1, Blaxsmith, and many more.
