6:30-7:15 or 7:30 Presentation: What will climate change cost? The answer involves lots of economist lingo.

Presenter: Professor David Trossman, University of Texas at Austin, Oden Institute.

Summary: It’s high time that earth system models are used for decision-making. What are they being used for? The numbers about temperature increases, precipitation changes, sea level rise, and other outputs of climate simulations are now being used by economists to boil the impacts of climate change down to dollars and cents. That may not make a whole lot of sense to people who understand the environmental and humanitarian crisis that is climate change, but it’s going to cost a lot of cents. The simplest way of quantifying our impact on climate that informs policy-makers about what the price of emitting carbon should be is the social cost of carbon. This presentation will show some examples of the factors that contribute to the social cost of carbon and what has been done to inform international agreements about the optimal balance between the economy and our greenhouse gas emissions. Why can’t we have our cake (good economy) and eat it (reduce emissions) too? We can talk about that.

7:15-8:00 Climate Change Committee Meeting –

Want to volunteer to save our society from the impacts of climate pollution that are vastly more critical today than have been portrayed in the media and scientific findings? Do you have special skills you would like to share or utilize to benefit the commons? Or do you just want to help and maybe be trained?

We have critical volunteer positions needing filled with social media and newsletter coediting. Both of these position will focus on climate content, though other environmental issues are part of the plan. You need a little experience but not much, we will train (Mailchimp. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)

For the dozen plus action teams we operate, only motivation is necessary – pick one that shines your fancy: Austin Energy, the Permian Pipeline, Rio Grande Valley Support, Carbon Fee & Dividend, People Power, Data Entry, Presentations, Education, Transportation and more.

Whether you have only minutes a month or hours a day, join us to build a mass movement to stop climate change. Or join another group fighting this vital cause. We don’t want you specifically (yes we do,) we want you to join the cause because so many lives depend on it and so few deeply understand the risks.
