Benefit for West African Orphanage (give hope to a child to “be”) // Guy Clark Tribute
May 29, 2016 @ 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Come together on a Sunday afternoon for this family friendly event and support an orphange in Niamey, Niger, West Africa.
In January, 2015, this orphanage and 45 churches were burnt down in reaction to the French Charlie Hebdo magazine cover.
Niger, an impoverished land-locked country in West Africa has a population of 17 million people. Niamey, the capital is overcrowded with few public services.
The orphanage has rebuilt but is in need of more beds, clothing and on-going food supplies.
Benefit will feature a buffet of delicious food as well as live music, featuring songs by legendary Texas Songwriter and Grammy Award winner, Guy Clark, who left this world on May 17th. 74 years old, he died at his home in Nashville.
Along with Townes Van Zandt, Jerry Jeff Walker and others, Guy patented the rugged, imagistic brand of narrative-rich songwriting that became associated with the Texas troubadour movement of the 1970s and ’80s.
This Sunday afternoon, family friendly event will celebrate his life and music as well as raise much needed funds for a West African orphanage.
Performances of Guy Clark songs by the following artists:Suzanne Monroe
At 6pm, Ibrahim Aminou will present a solo performance on Kora (African Harp) and talk about the orphanage in Niamey, Niger that we are supporting through this event.
A donation of $5 to $10 at the door gets you an afternoon of music, free food, activities for children, and a raffle ticket to win one of an assortment of prizes.
