Backyard Workshop with Power Tools!
September 27, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
We are looking for community involvement to help spruce up the back porch at the Women’s Community Center. We would love your support! The backyard is part covered garage and part patio, but all concrete jungle.
On Sunday, Sept. 27, we will be hosting a workshop led by Claire Gordon, a metal sculptor extraordinaire, to build planters in the backyard. This DIY workshop will encompass both a skill building and community building aspect. Maintaining the planters will also be a means to engage the homeless/in transition people we see at the Center.
*Hair must be pulled back in a tie, or otherwise secured away from the face and out of the way of moving parts.
*No loose jewelry, although it’s best to wear none at all.
*No loose fitting clothing. It’s still going to be fairly hot, so short sleeves and shorts or pants are recommended.
*Closed toe shoes must be worn.
*When using the tools, proper protection must be worn. Each tool will have protection that is paired with it, that I will demonstrate.
*When operating a tool, do not look away from the tool or otherwise allow your attention to be diverted.
*If there is a problem with a tool, or if you have a question, fully shut off the tool and allow it to come to a complete stop before taking your attention away from the tool.
*Be aware of your surroundings.
*If you are unclear or unsure about instructions, please ask! It’s the best way to make sure you learn and are safe.
*Take frequent breaks and drink plenty of water.
We are looking for donations of soil, seeds, and little plants. If you have a recommendation or can donate, please email Danea Johnson at [email protected]. Thanks!
