Afternoon In The Garden- Keyhole Gardening
November 15, 2015 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Afternoon in the Garden: Keyhole Gardening; Save Water while Boosting Fertility
Keyhole gardens have gained popularity in dry regions around the world for their ability to retain moisture and nutrients. This is accomplished by building a circular raised garden bed out of everyday items (known as lasagna gardening), with a compost basket in the middle to continually distribute moisture, nutrients, and even beneficial organisms to the surrounding bed. A small slice in the circle facilitates easy access to the center basket which forms the keyhole shape. Come in the morning to experience building a keyhold garden from the ground up, or come in the afternoon to lend a hand planting, mulching, and watering the bed. This event is taking place in the Compost Demonstration area in Zilker Botanical Garden.
