Many stories from the Mexican drug war will never be told. Documentary feature KINGDOM OF SHADOWS follows three individuals on the dangerous front lines: a Mexican-American Homeland Security officer in El Paso, a nun turned victim’s rights advocate in Monterrey, and an Anglo American drug smuggler, who has been importing drugs across the Mexico-Texas border since the 1970s. While the drug war has only very recently been at the forefront of international news, for years, veteran Mexican and American documentarian Bernardo Ruiz has been up close and personal with those who live with the conflict every day. Through their stories, another picture of the ongoing humanitarian crisis and profound societal impact of the drug trade’s politics begins to emerge.
