July 29, 2015 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Directed by Mariana Aydar, Joaquim Castro & Eduardo Nazarian
Brazil, 2014, DCP, 79 min., Color
In Portuguese with English subtitles

The directors, producers, and researchers involved in making the documentary DOMINGUINHOS worked long and hard to put together this uplifting portrait of the virtuoso musician. With archival footage related to Dominguinhos, his environment, and the cultural/historical context of his rise to fame, audiences will see how rooted he was in his place and time – just the way that films about African American blues musicians must take many socio-cultural elements into consideration. This documentary is not just for aficionados of the many forms of Brazilian music. Dominguinhos’ amazing treatment of the accordion, his beautiful compositions, and his delightful personality make this documentary a joyful experience. This was hands-down one of Chale’s favorite documentaries at SXSW 2015.
