The heat is on, so it’s the “purrfect” time to join a bunch of really cool cats at the 10th annual KittyPalooza.
This year’s event will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, July 1 and 2, at the Austin Animal Center. Saturday features the return of “Foster Kittens” — a one-of-a-kind talent show featuring our all-star kitties.
At this event, adoption fees for all shelter pets will be waived. All cats and dogs will be spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated—a value of more than $200.
Sponsored in part by the Friends of the Austin Animal Center, the first 100 cat adopters at Austin Animal Center will get goody bags of supplies for their new cat(s) to enjoy.
As for the main act, Foster Kittens, “we’ve booked a wide variety of acts,” said Foster Coordinator Erin Herren. “It’s obvious Austin’s got talent.”
From old favorites, like Simon & Purr-bunkle, Meowrah Carey and The Notorious C.A.T., to some of the hottest artists, like Kitty Minaj, Mike Pawsner and Purrell Williams. These talented felines are sure to put a song in your heart, and unlike most festivals, the shelter will make it easy to take your favorite artist or artists home with you. You can even start preparing now by printing out a KittyPalooza Backstage Pass.
“We’ve watched these young groups mature into amazing talents, and it’s been a lot of fun to watch them grow and come into their own,” said Lee Ann Shenefiel, Interim Chief Animal Services Officer. “Now we want to get them the exposure and recognition they deserve, and we’re hoping to get multiple (adoption) contracts signed on this exciting weekend.”
The Austin Animal Center is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. More information about Austin Animal Center can be found at www.AustinAnimalCenter.org; by calling 3-1-1; or by visiting the Center’s Facebook event page.
