Don’t Miss These FREE Austin Movie Nights — Summer 2018

Outdoor summer movies are the perfect way to combine three of our favorite things: being outdoors, watching movies, and FREE activities.

From parks to bars to everything in between, here are all the places you can enjoy a film under the sweet summer sky over Austin.

Movies in the Park

 

Camp Lucy Summer Movie Series (Dripping Springs)
June 28 | at 7:30 p.m. | Camp Lucy, 3509 Creek Rd., Dripping Springs
The stars at night… shine brightest on the big screen! Enjoy the first evening of the 2018 Summer Movie Series at Camp Lucy with a special showing of Shrek. All ages are welcome at this FREE movie showcase. Food and drinks will be available for purchase onsite, including Camp Lucy’s chef-inspired menu of light appetizers, entrées, gourmet popcorn, beer, wine, and select craft cocktails. Additional screenings should be announced later in the summer.

Friday Night Flix
June 29 | at 8 p.m. | Lone Star Court, 10901 Domain Dr.
Friday Night Flix returns on June 29 with the classic Peter Pan tale, Hook! The movie will begin at 8pm, sharp. Arrive early and enjoy a classic burger with fries and a soft drink for just $5 in the Water Trough Bar! Happy Hour prices until 11 p.m. in the Water Trough Bar. Live music in the Water Trough following the movie.

Free Summer Series at Easy Tiger
July 1, 8, 15, 22, & 29 | at 8 p.m. | Easy Tiger, 709 E. 6th St.
Easy Tiger is partnering with Real Ale Brewing to host their popular free summer film screening series! First up is Adam Sandler’s golfing comedy Happy Gilmore. Trivia: The film was co-written by Judd Apatow and winner of MTV’s “Best Fight” for Sandler vs. Bob Barker. Arrive early for prime seats in the Beer Garden! Future screening dates are July 8: Cool Runnings, July 15: Rocky, July 22: Space Jam and July 29: Series Finale: BBQ (7 pm) + Kingpin!

Movies in the East
July 6, Aug. 3 & Sept. 7 | at dusk | Easton Park, 7000 Cardinal Bloom Loop
Take your blankets and lawn chairs to Bryant Park and enjoy a film under the stars during the Movie in the East series. Glass containers are prohibited. Admission is free. All movies start at dusk.

Amazon’s Treasure Truck Free Outdoor Movie Screening
July 7 & 14 | at 6 p.m. | Republic Square, 422 Guadalupe St.
Amazon’s Treasure Truck will pop up in five U.S. cities during July to host two free outdoor movie events, including Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s Hotel Transylvania and Fox Searchlight’s Isle of Dogs . On July 7 and July 14, movie fans will enjoy an evening of free entertainment under the stars, complete with films, popcorn, giveaways, activities and entertainment for all ages, available on a first-come, first- served basis. Gates open at 6 p.m., with activities and entertainment for all ages. Movies are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m., light permitting.

Sound & Cinema
July 11 & 25, Aug. 1 & 15 | at 6 p.m. | The Long Center, 701 W. Riverside Dr.
Oh those summer nights! In partnership with the Alamo Drafthouse and Do512, grab your friends and family and experience the cool vibes of Sound & Cinema on the Long Center’s front lawn—live and local music combined with classic movies and cult films projected onto the Drafthouse’s giant, inflatable outdoor screen. For each event, food trucks will open at 6 p.m., music begins at 7:30 p.m., followed by the film screening after sunset.

Outdoor Movie Night at Austin Humane Society
July 12 | at 7:30 p.m. | Austin Humane Society, 124 W. Anderson Ln.
Grab your picnic basket and load up your pack for a family-friendly movie night at the Austin Humane Society. These events feature an animal-themed movie fit for the entire family. Plus, they’ll have concessions including Casey’s New Orleans Snowballs, Doggie Style and FREE beer from Celis Brewery, plus games, and kid’s activities, too. Movie nights will be held outside on the AHS lawn. The movie will start at sundown. Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome to join the fun! In the event of rain, the movie will be shown inside the AHS Auditorium.

101X Summer Cinema
July 12 & 26, Aug. 9 | at 6 p.m. | Republic Square, 422 Guadalupe St.
All summer long enjoy a movie at Republic Square for the #101XSummerCinema! The movies start at sunset – around 8:40 p.m. – but arrive early to secure your spot and to play a trivia game for the chance to win awesome prizes from 101X! Have dinner at the food trucks & enjoy the beer garden.

City of Georgetown Sunset Movie Series (Georgetown)
July 20 & Aug. 17 | at 7:30 p.m. | San Gabriel Park, 445 E. Morrow St., Georgetown
Grab a blanket or some chairs and enjoy a movie under the stars! Georgetown Parks and Recreation hosts films at the soccer fields in San Gabriel Park, located behind the Creative Playscape. This is a free community event. The movie starts at sunset. Arive early for free popcorn along with some fun and games, starting at 7:30 p.m. Free parking is available at the Georgetown Recreation Center.

Austin Parks Foundation’s Movies in the Park is a free series of films in partnership with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema’s Rolling Roadshow and presented by Whole Foods Market. For over 10 years, APF has brought movies to neighborhood parks across Austin ensuring Austinites of all backgrounds have access to free outdoor entertainment.

Mean Movie Monday

The Community Cinema at Community First! Village
Fridays | at 8 p.m. | Community First! Village, 9301 Hog Eye Rd.
Mobile Loaves & Fishes invites you to a free movie night at our Community First! Village. Grab chairs and a blanket, bring family and friends. Get there early to explore Community First! Village, pick your spot, and enjoy your favorite movie snacks from the Community Grille. Burgers, french fries, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase (cards and cash accepted!). The event is free, however a $5 donation would be highly appreciated.

Alamo Kids Camp ($1-5)

School is out and that means it’s time for Kids Camp! Kids Camp is an affordable way for families to watch great films together all summer at the Alamo Drafthouse. Tickets are super cheap ($1-$5) and 100% of ticket sales benefit great local nonprofits. It’s an easy way to teach kids about giving back to the community while enjoying some family fun. Most Kids Camp screenings are ages 3 and up, but some locations are All Ages – please check here for local policies. Regular no talking/texting policies apply and noisy families may be asked to leave. A list of upcoming films can be found here.

Moviehouse & Eatery FREE Summer Kids Camp

Join for FREE kids films all summer long! Tickets are available first come, first served at 9 a.m., and all movies start at 10 a.m. Check out the first half of the summer schedule below. Further dates will be added in early JulyAvailability is limited, so don’t miss a moment of this kidventurous cinema series!

Regal Summer Movie Express

Admission to the Summer Movie Express is only $1. Tickets available for purchase at the box office and all movies in most locations start at 10 a.m. Check theater for exact showtimes.

Southwest Theaters
Various Dates through Aug. 9 | at 10:30 a.m. | Lake Creek 7, 13729 Research Blvd, Ste 1500, Austin
All showtimes are at 10:30 a.m. $1 per show. This theater also offers $2 matinees (before 6:00 p.m.) daily, year-round.
