An independent-minded singer and songwriter in the Texas honky tonk tradition, Aaron Watson plays country music with a traditional feel but a young man’s energy, and has earned a loyal fan following in the Lone Star State. Born in Amarillo, Texas, Watson’s earliest musical influences were the gospel hymns he sang in church with his family and the classic country records by George Jones, Merle Haggard, and Willie Nelson his folks played around the house. Watson began writing and singing his own songs while he was a student at Abilene Christian University, and after graduating he became a regular fixture on the Texas honky tonk circuit. The FREE performance begins at 6 p.m. (Waterloo Records, 600A North Lamar Boulevard, Austin)
“While Asleep at the Wheel’s carried the torch of Western Swing and kept it alive and well, they’ve also lit the way for outfits like the Hot Texas Swing Band. Hot Texas leans heavily to the Bob Wills & the Texas Playboys-style swing, the kind that makes you wish for the nearest wooden dancefloor.” – Margaret Moser, Austin Chronicle.
The music of the Hot Texas Swing Band is guaranteed to get your boots dancin’, your toes tappin’ and your fingers snappin’! Like Texas herself, the Hot Texas Swing Band is a crossroads of musical influences. Anchored in Western Swing, the Hot Texas Swing Band adds original material, Latin beats and Swing-a-Billy to form a high-energy new Western Swing sound. The FREE show starts at 8 p.m. (The Highball, 1120 South Lamar Boulevard, Austin)
