Celebrate Me! South Korea

Head to the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center on Saturday, September 6, 2014, from noon – 4 p.m., for Celebrate Me! South Korea.  This event is free and open to the public. 

Celebrate Me! is a travel event series exploring different cultures from around the world and celebrating their similarity and diversity. Each time, participants are invited to visit a new corner of the globe. The journey will explore different cultures and the artistic life of their community through language, food, geography, and history.



Celebrate Me! South Korea Schedule of Events:

Children’s Crafts (Museum Store)

  • Create Traditional Sam Taeguk Fans, Make Felt Pot Stickers 
  • Add Handprint to Korean Map—presented by UT Chapter of Liberty in North Korea

Library and Trivia (Conference Room) – Noon-4 p.m.

  • Explore South Korea through Books and Answer Questions for Prizes

Traditional Drum Performance (Drum/Museum Foyer) – 12:15 p.m.

  • Presented by the Korean American Association of Greater Austin

Korean Language (General Greeting, Song, and Introduction) – 12:30-1:30 p.m.

  • (Juneteenth Area—Main Gallery) Presented by Austin Language Learning School

Taekwondo Demonstration and Lessons (Dance Studio) – 1:30-2:15 p.m.

  • Presented by Taekwondo Master-Instructor Michael Olds 

K-pop Dance Performances and Demonstrations (DRUM/ Museum Foyer) – 2:30-3:30 p.m.

  • Red Light by f(x), The Chaser by Infinite, Catallena by Orange Caramel, and Growl by EXO
  • Presented by Demographics Entertainment

Traditional Korean Folk Dance – 3:30 p.m.

  • Presented by the Korean American Association of Greater Austin

Korean Komfort Food (Outside Museum Entrance)

  • Make sure to get a voucher from volunteer/staff for a FREE sample of Mandoo (dumplings)!

Tastes of South Korea (Community Gallery Hallway)

  • All samples will be served on first-come, first-served basis.
