Bet You Didn’t Know Austin Has One Of The Country’s Best Brewpubs

Another Austin restaurant has walked away with awards this week, with Austin Beer Garden and Brewery winning gold medals at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado. The local brewery won a gold medal for its Industry pilsner in the category for German-style Pilsner and a bronze medal for its Hell Yes helles in the Munich-Style Helles category. In addition, it was also named the country’s Large Brewpub and Large Brewpub Brewer of the Year.

Austin Beer Garden and Brewery (or ABGB) began in 2013 when former Qui’ and Uncle Billy’s Brewery and Smokehouse employees Amos Lowe and Brian “Swifty” Peters deccided to start their own brewery. The Great American Beer Festival, hosted by the Brewers Association is the largest craft brewing ceremony in the United States, and is one of the most prestigious. 1,752 entries were submitted this year for the festival.

Austin Beer Garden and Brewery wasn’t the only brewery in town to win big, however. Adelbert’s Brewery also took home a gold medal for its Flyin’ Monks in the Belgian-Dubbel or Quadruple category, and Independence Brewing Co. won a bronze medal for its Redbud with Cucumber in the Field Beer category. Real Ale Brewing Co., located about 50 miles outside of Austin in Blanco, also won a gold medal for its Real Heavy beer in the Scotch Ale category.
