When the temps are just right, we know you’re looking for ways to get your family out of the house. What better way to do just that than by spending time at one of the best Austin parks? We’re back with yet another great Austin park: Butler Metro Park.

Butler Park is one of Austin’s first “green” parks. The park is irrigated with non-potable water from Lady Bird Lake. In addition, all of the park’s maintenance equipment is either powered by electricity or propane.

The park has many unique features including an observation hill overlooking Lady Bird Lake, a children’s garden, meadow, and the Liz Carpenter Splash Pad. It’s the perfect place to take a hike or ride a bike followed by a picnic set the backdrop of the breathtaking Austin skyline. Plus, it’s family friendly as well as dog friendly, not to mention a great photography spot!

Now Open: Alliance Children’s Garden

The park’s Alliance Children’s Garden opening was delayed due to the pandemic. But we are happy to say it is now open! Park fun includes a bell piano, lawn chess, table tennis (bring your own paddles and ball), and an incredible playscape. Here are some pictures of the finished product.

The goal is to create a multigenerational play venue representing the unique culture of Austin through contextual forms, imaginative play, playful elements, and strong aesthetics. Job well done!

Don’t forget to bring along these items: water, sunscreen, bug repellent, and snacks!
