Austin’s ‘Vision Zero’ Team Aims To End Traffic Deaths

There is a big goal when it comes to the commute throughout Austin: to reduce the number of people killed in crashes. In 2015, 102 people died on Austin roads—the highest number ever seen in the city. Wednesday, an initiative launched last year called Vision Zero, is going before the Austin Mobility Committee with the goal to reduce the number of traffic deaths to zero.

The Vision Zero team, which is made up of city transportation and planning members, analyzed traffic crash data between 2010 and 2014. They determined there are clear patterns to where and why accidents are occurring.
