Another wonderful Austin weekend is here, and there are so many great things to do in and around town. Here are the top 10 FREE Austin events happening this weekend.

  1. Speedway on DOMAIN Boulevard
    Friday through Sunday, November 1 through 3 | from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. | 11701 Domain Boulevard

    Rev up your engines, Austin! Domain NORTHSIDE and Groove Jones are excited to welcome Speedway on Domain BLVD! Visit the XR Avatar Station™ for a virtual reality experience in celebration of Formula 1 weekend in Austin. Enter the portable volumetric 3D scanner to create fun, shareable, and personalized hologram avatars that place you right on the racetrack! The XR Avatar Station™ activation is free and open to the public. Participants can select from two CGI scenes that will place them in a virtual Formula 1 environment creating the experience of what it’s like to speed around the track or celebrate in the Winner’s Circle. The system will then deliver an animated movie file for guests to keep and share on social media.
  2. The Lion King (2019) Free Outdoor Screening
    Friday, November 1 | from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. | Community Cinema and Ampitheater, 9301 Hog Eye Road

    Mobile Loaves & Fishes invites you to a free movie night at our Community First! Village. Grab chairs and a blanket, bring family and friends, and enjoy this special screening. Explore Community First! Village, pick your spot, and enjoy your favorite movie snacks from the Community Grille. Burgers, french fries, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase (cards only, cash no longer accepted). The event is free, however a $5 donation would be highly appreciated.
  3. Trunk or Treat at Hillcrest Church
    Saturday, November 2 | from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. | Hillcrest Church, 3838 Steck Avenue
    Wear your costume, decorate your trunk, bring some treats and
    join us in the parking lot at 10:00 a.m. Enjoy food and drinks, games and music, a bounce house, and fun for the whole family! 
  4. Tea Rex Party
    Saturday, November 2 | from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. | St. John Branch Austin Public Library, 7500 Blessing Avenue
    Join for a Tea Rex party to celebrate Dinovember. The celebration includes stories, Cretaceous crafts, a Dino dance-off, a very special guest, and so much more! Discover what fossil footprints tell us and make your own dino print fossil, then explore the plants of the Triassic jungle and create fern forest art.  And what would a tea party be without tea and treats? Decorate a dinosaur egg cookie as you learn about new dinosaur discoveries.
  5. Community Impact Day
    Saturday, November 2 | from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Zavala Elementary School, 310 Robert T. Martinez Jr. Street
    Spectrum is celebrating local communities by hosting Community Impact Day and we want you to join the fun in Austin! Check out the nonprofit booths, get your face painted, enjoy a bite from the food trucks, dance to music from HOT 95.9 take photos with special guests, play games, and more. Also, receive a free Safe & Healthy Home Kit. It’s all FREE and it’s all for you! *while supplies last
  6. Caturday
    Saturday, November 2 | from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Austin Central Public Library, 710 West Cesar Chavez Street
    Caturdays are the best days! Visit the Austin Central Public Library to read to adoptable cats, make kitty-centric crafts like beds, head bands and toys, make a poster for a shelter cat and even bring one (or two!) home! Cats and kittens at the event will be available for adoption!
  7. Día de los Muertos at the Mexican American Culture Center
    Saturday, November 2 | from 3 to 8 p.m. | Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center, 600 River Street
    Annual celebration for Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). This event is free and open to all ages. It will include an exhibition of altars (ofrendas), a community altar where guests can add their objects and pay respects to those loved ones who have passed on. There will be children’s activities including sugar skull decorating and facepainting. Live music and dance performances highlight Mexican traditions. Also food trucks, a vendor market, and plenty of entertainment for guests of all ages. Come in your Day of the Dead costume to honor this celebration of life and death!
  8. Crosswork Fall Festival
    Saturday, November 2 | from 5 to 7 p.m. | Crosswork Christian Center
    , 1201 South Heatherwilde Boulevard, Pflugerville
    You are invited to attend CrossWork Christian Center’s free community Fall Festival event filled with fun, food and fellowship. Youth will have a safe alternative to traditional Halloween trick-or-treating such as trunk-or-treating, games and other engaging activities such as a bounce house, balloon twisting and face painting.
  9. H-E-B Free First Sunday
    Sunday, November 3 | from 12 to 5 p.m. | Bullock Texas State History Museum, 1800 Congress Avenue

    Enjoy free exhibition admission all day and engage in STEM-related family activities from noon to 3 pm in honor of the exhibitions Cowboys in Space and Beyond Planet Earth. H-E-B Free First Sunday presented by H-E-B.
  10. Celebrate Dia de los Muertos with Boost Mobile!
    Sunday, November 3 | from 12 to 4 p.m. | Boost Mobile, 2237 East Riverside Drive

    Celebrate Day of the Dead with Boost Mobile! Join us for FREE prizes, traditional Mexican food, face painting and MORE! Plus, enjoy an outdoor screening of Disney Pixar’s Coco!
