Looking to spend some quality time with your furry friend this August? Or perhaps you wish to be surrounded by dogs, cats, and even goats? Well, here you go. We’ve rounded up the best pet-friendly events happening in Austin all month long. Some are free. Some have fees. Some are for kids. Some are for adults. Because who doesn’t love animals? Happy Hearts Dog Rescue

Happy Hearts is a new small rescue. We save dogs from kill shelters all across the state of Texas. Because every dog deserves a happy home. Meet the new rescue and their cute pups available for adoption.

Lil Dog Rescue Meet & Greet
August 3 | from 12 to 2 p.m. | Petco, 401 S Hwy Us 183, Leander
Every month, we host a meet & greet for our adoptable dogs at Petco in Leander. This is a great opportunity to come meet the dogs, talk to a volunteer about our process, and ask all the questions you are dying to ask!

First Sundays Yappy Hour
August 4 | from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. | South Congress Hotel, 1603 South Congress Ave.
There’s no better way to start your day with a (s)bark than on South Congress at First Sunday Yappy Hours! Starting in April, local brands Grocery Pup and Wondercide are cohosting Yappy Hours at South Congress Hotel every first Sunday, through October. Enjoy Juice Society samples, live music by DJ Cassandra and a variety of fun pop ups from other local pup brands while your furry friend chows down on fresh Grocery Pup and is pampered with swag. See you and your pack there!

Dog Yoga with VIVA Austin
August 4 & 18 | at 9 a.m. | Work and Woof, 4930 S. Congress Ave., Bldg. A
We’re back with another indoor, dog-friendly yoga series Sunday mornings in August and September! Come practice your poses alongside cute noses at our hour-long, all-levels vinyasa yoga class with Carly from VIVA Austin! Bring the fur-kids (we’ll incorporate some doggy relaxation tips as part of the class!) OR drop them off at the outside yard to play with one of our Work and Woof staffers. No dog necessary to join the class– just be prepared to enjoy your downward facing dogs with free-range ones! Class cost: $20 What does it get me?: 1 yoga class, 1 all-day pass to use that day at Work & Woof: Coworking, Indoor Dog Park, Daycare‘s Indoor/Outdoor Play Park, and beverages after class.

Summer Kids Series at Austin Humane Society – Story Time
August 6 | from 10 to 11 a.m. | Austin Humane Society, 124 W. Anderson Lane
Cats & Dogs! Each Story Time session focuses on either feline friends or canine companions. Children will learn about the animal through a silly and sweet storybook. Then, new this year, our Rescue Readers will spread out through our shelter to give the animals some love too! This session is recommended for children 8 and younger.

Summer Kids Series at Austin Humane Society – Tail Talks
August 6 | from 2 to 3 p.m. | Austin Humane Society, 124 W. Anderson Lane
Stray Cats, Bottle Babies, & TNR! Why is our cat doing that? How do we get our dog to sit? What baby animals live in Texas? If your child has ever asked any questions along these lines – Tail Talks is for you! Join the fun as we dig a little deeper into the world of dogs, cats and shelter life at the Austin Humane Society. These interactive sessions are best suited for 8-12 year olds.

GOGA Goat Yoga
August 10 | at 10 & 11 a.m. | Yoga and Goga, 2700 Hill Country Blvd Suite S-115, Bee Cave
Yoga…but with baby goats! Classes are 45 minutes with extra time afterward for additional photos with the goats. 100% of our proceeds from t-shirt sales are donated to a different Austin-based nonprofit for each event. Ages 10+ Tickets are required for each person attending classes, regardless of age.

Dog Days of Summer
August 10 | from 12 to 6 p.m.| Live Oak Brewery, 615 Crozier Ln, Del Valle
Celebrate the puppers in your life! Bring leashed doggos, along with their favorite costume, for a great day at the brewery of live music, a donation drive benefiting the Austin Animal Center AND a special beer cask. Vote for the best dog costume at the bar. Winner is announced at 5pm, and gets a prize! AUSTIN ANIMAL CENTER DONATIONS: will be collected in designated bins. Summer Kids Series at Austin Humane Society – Teddy Bear Surgery
August 10 | from 1 to 3 p.m. | Austin Humane Society, 124 W. Anderson Lane
The all-time family favorite is back! Through Teddy Bear Surgery, your little one and their favorite stuffed animal can step into our world at Austin Humane Society and a real-life animal clinic. Kids are invited to bring their stuffed animals along for a little TLC as our shelter team helps diagnose and then cure what ails them. One visit with our staff and everyone will be feeling better in no time!

Dog Alliance Fundraiser – Paint Your Pet
August 10 | from 1 to 4 p.m.| Spirit of Texas Distillery, 715 Dalshank St., Pflugerville
Ready to paint your four-legged loved one?– dogs, cats, horses, hamsters– whatever pet you want to paint! You just need to send us a high quality photo of the pet you would like to paint (soon after you sign up) so we can have one of our instructors sketch an outline on your canvas. A portion of every registration will be donated to The Dog Alliance! The more people that register for this fun event, the more money will be donated per registration!

Monthly Meeting – Meet Guide Dog Puppies + GDB Austin Volunteers
August 11 | at 4 p.m.| Guide Dogs for the Blind
What is this event? Monthly Meeting for Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB), is where leaders, puppy raisers, and puppy sitters get all together. Interested volunteers are welcome to join, meet our puppies, and learn how to get involved! What do we do? GDB – Austin is a team of proud volunteer puppy raisers and puppy sitters for Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB). More info here.

Summer Kids Series at Austin Humane Society – Austin Wildlife Rescue

Central Texas is brimming with wildlife. Who better to help your kids explore than our friends at the Austin Wildlife Rescue. We’re teaming up to bring the wild to you! Your young explorers will learn all about baby animals, what to do if you see them, and how they live in the wild. Plus, we’ll have a special guest on hand…Tito the Tortoise! This session is recommended for children 8 and younger.

Lil Dog Rescue Meet & Greet
August 17 | from 12 p.m. | Pet Supplies Plus, 12407 N. MoPac Expy., Ste. 525B
Come by our MoPac location every 3rd Saturday of the month and meet all the adorable small breeds from Lil’ Paws Maltese Rescue and other Petite Paws! “Lil’ Paws Maltese Rescue is a home-based, non-profit rescue organization made up solely of volunteers. We are dedicated to helping homeless Maltese and other small breeds in the Austin area by fostering, providing the best possible health care, and placing them in a loving forever homes.”

Kitten Yoga Benefiting Hill Country Cats

Dog Treat Cooking Class
August 17 & 18 | from 2 to 4 p.m. | Overture at the Domain, 3100 Kramer Lane
Come hang out with us in the beautiful clubroom of the Overture Domain, where we will sip mimosas* and learn how to make 3 dog treats for your bff (best friend fur-ever)! Each guest will receive printed recipes as well as treats to take home. But wait, there’s more–all proceeds will help purchase a dog wheelchair for Austin Pets Alive! Now that’s something that gets our tails wagging. *Limit 2 per guest. Tickets – $30.

Paddle for Puppies
August 25 | from 7 to 9:30 a.m.| Rowing Dock, 2418 Stratford Dr.
Austin Subaru presents the 8th annual Paddle for Puppies event at Rowing Dock on Lady Bird Lake. This event benefits the Parvo Puppy Program at Austin Pets Alive!. The rowing course will begin and end at Rowing Dock, and the turn around point will be the Austin Statesman property. Grab a boat and hit the water with us! You’ll join a group of 400+ attendees and paddle a kayak, canoe, or SUP on a roundtrip group-paddle down Lady Bird Lake.

8th Annual APA! Dating Auction
