Texas Book Fest Inspires Texans to Love Reading

The Texas Book Festival took over the streets surrounding the capital for two days of free festival fun on Saturday and Sunday, October 27 and 28. The festival featured appearances by former Chief Official White House Photographer Pete Souza, rapper Dessa, Sarah Bird (reader’s best fiction writer award winner in Austin Chronicle’s Best of Austin 2018), comedian/actress/writer Phoebe Robinson, and Austin’s most famous BBQer Aaron Franklin.

Austin Nichols Comes Home for Austin Film Fest

Austin native Austin Nichols walked the red carpet for the film The Iron Orchard at the Austin Film Fest. Asked about how it felt to be back in Austin for the festival, he said, “It’s the coolest thing that could happen.” His first stop when he returns home to the ATX? Magnolia Cafe or Thundercloud Subs.

Lane Garrison is now a Hutto Hippo

Lane Garrison, who you may recognize from “Prison Break” or Shooter, now calls the Austin area home. While on The Iron Orchard red carpet at Austin Film Fest, the Dallas native proclaimed he’s a proud Hutto Hippo! When asked about his favorite eats in Austin, he listed Matt’s El Rancho, Perry’s, and Louie Mueller Barbecue in Taylor.

Andy Roddick Hosts 13th Annual Foundation Gala

Andy Roddick, along with wife Brooklyn Decker, Kendra Scott, and Matt Davis hosted the 13th annual Andy Roddick Foundation Gala in Austin on Thursday, November 1. Bobby Bones and his “Dancing With The Stars” partner Sharna Burgess were also on hand for the event. Dierks Bentley performed for gala goers. Previous artists who’ve taken center stage at the event include Elton John, John Legend, Darius Rucker, and Jake Owen.

Alamo Drafthouse to Close on Election Day

The Alamo Drafthouse announced that it will be closing all 36 locations nationwide for part of the day on Tuesday, November 6, to encourage employees to vote. We encourage y’all to get out to the polls as well. Your vote makes a difference!
