Austin Council Poised For Final Vote On Uber, Lyft Regulations

After months of back-and-forth and money spent on TV ad placements, the Austin City Council is expected to make the final vote Thursday on how to regulate Transportation Network Companies such as Uber and Lyft.

At issue: fingerprint checking driver applicants as is done with taxi drivers. Earlier public meetings have brought out dozens of t-shirt clad Uber and Lyft supporters who say that level of background check is overreaching. Now, after more than a year, it is coming down to a game of ‘who will blink first’ with the rideshare companies publicly threatening to leave town if certain regulations are implemented.
