It’s a weekend to celebrate mothers! Not that Austinites ever need a reason to celebrate. As usual, there are all kinds of Austin events and other opportunities for fun in the ATX this weekend. Here are 10 that we think would definitely receive mom’s stamp of approval…

Thursday, May 11

National Foam Rolling Day

In celebration of National Foam Rolling Day, Austin based fitness brands TriggerPoint and Stronghorn Fitness are offering a free community workout and rollout at Zilker Park. Snacks and prize packs will be given away which include product bundles, memberships, free class passes and more.

A Night with E4 Youth

E4 Youth invites you to attend a showcase of their youth’s amazing talents, including performances by the musical group Legacy ATX and members of the Grammy winning band Grupo Fantasma. Volunteers and partners throughout the creative community will also be recognized. The event is free but donations are encouraged.

Kaxan Rescue Day Party

KXAN’s mascot KAXAN wants you to celebrate the day his life changed after trotting down the alley behind the KXAN News studio. The event supports his therapy dog group Divine Canines and their Bark for Beers event. Drink specials, doggie treats and goodie bags will be offered (while supplies last, of course). All well behaved dogs on leash are welcome.

Friday, May 12

SHREK The Musical Jr.

You’ll be ogre the moon at this family friendly presentation from TSBVI. Based on the hit movie series, the musical comedy follows Shrek’s adventures as he sets off on a quest to save a princess from a dragon. However, it turns out that in order to ultimately succeed, Shrek must battle an even bigger obstacle: learning how to believe in himself and open his heart to others. All performances are audio described and free to the public.

Wonder Women Luncheon & Expo

Austin Monthly’s celebrated Mother’s Day weekend with the first ever Wonder Women Luncheon & Expo benefitting Susan G Komen Austin and CareBOX Program. Whether you are a mom, daughter, sister, or friend, YOU are a Wonder Woman. The event features 30+ exhibitors, three educational seminars, a luncheon featuring a panel of women from their Women We Love feature, and much more. Tickets start at just $15 and the first 100 attendees will receive a swag bag worth over $75.

Index Fest Austin 2017

Index Fest Austin brings together nearly 300 craft beer varieties, along with delicious ciders, created by 75 of the top breweries from Austin and around the country. The Austin Vampire Carnival

Advertised as “sexy meets freakshow,” the carnival will feature performances and side shows by a variety of DJs and performers, a charity kissing booth, games, face painting, photo ops and more. Please note, this event is 18+ and the recommended attire is dark, sexy, carnival/circus themed, masks, face paint and/or lingerie. No promise of an appearance by Spike or Angel. Dang!

Athleta Mother’s Day Celebration

While there are a variety of brunch offerings celebrating Mother’s Day, here’s an option that won’t cost you a thing. Unless Athleta attire is your weakness, of course. Start the day learning the latest moves during a Mother and Daughter Dance, led by MÜV Dance & Fitness (10:30-11:30 a.m.). Then, replenish and nourish with a mini-brunch with The Gainz Bakery and ‘mom’osas during your private shopping time (11:30 a.m.-12 noon). And, finally, pose for a quick portrait, make a craft or two with the kids, receive a floral favor from Malleret Designs and enter to win special prizes.

Disney On Ice: Dream Big

It’s always a fun family filled time at Disney on Ice. This year’s show invites you to step into a magical world where you can Dream Big.
