With so much live music in Austin to see every weekend, we know it’s difficult to pick which bands to watch. To make it easier, we’ve picked 10 shows to see this weekend. Featuring both local and national bands, we’ve rounded up some of the most diverse groups Austin has to offer this weekend. Read on to see our picks!

Thursday, June 29

Smoke Signals

On the road to support their latest album, Anxiety, Arkansas metal band Smoke Signals is hitting the stage at Austin’s newest venue, Come and Take It Live, for an intense and adrenaline rushing gig that metal fans won’t want to miss. With support from Auslander and Plasticity Theory, watching Smoke Signals live is a great way to get your weekend going.

Darden Smith

Austin based singer-songwriter Darden Smith will be joining the Shady Grove Unplugged series lineup this weekend, where he will be performing his hit songs and fan favorites. With calming folk sounds and great stories to tell, if you aren’t already familiar with Smith, this performance will be the perfect introduction. Songs such as “Love Calling” prove there isn’t much not to like about Smith and his music. In addition to seeing a wonderful performer, guests can enjoy great food from one of Austin’s most beloved restaurants alongside $4 Ziegenbocks on draft.

Emily Herring

Emily Herring is a long time Austinite and a brilliant country singer. She’s performing at The White Horse this Thursday evening with her band Farm to Market, and she is an addicting addition to your music playlist. With an intimate and welcoming atmosphere, The White Horse is the perfect place to see Herring and experience her rocking live show. Other group’s performing are Saddle Sores and Jim Stringer and the AM Band.

Rochelle and The Sidewinders

Voted as Austin’s number one blues band by the Austin Blues Society, Rochelle and the Sidewinders write catchy and memorable blues tracks that you won’t be able to stop humming. With a live show that you’ll want to tell your friends about, Rochelle and The Sidewinders will be a band that you won’t forget anytime soon.

Friday, June 30

Witchcryer

With influences ranging from classic metal acts Black Sabbath and Switchfire General, Witchcryer is one of Austin’s best metal bands in a genre that is a rarity in Austin. They’ll be playing punchy tracks from their debut record, Cry Witch. If you are a fan of old school metal, then be sure to add Witchcryer to your weekend show list.

Saturday, July 1

The Dan Ryan Record Release

Indie rock musician Dan Ryan will be celebrating the release of his latest record, Guidance, with a release show at Cheer Up Charlie’s on Red River. With an intoxicating live performance, the hazy and dreamy sounds of Ryan is certain to win you over whether you are a local or visiting from out of town.

Horti CD Release Party

With a distinctive sound that encapsulates both their energy and creativity, Austin band Horti will be hosting an album release party at Empire Control Room and Garage to mark the release of Corpus Callosum, the group’s latest release. Their music brings in bluegrass and other sounds, making Horti the perfect band to listen to if you are looking to expose your ears to new things.

Antone’s 42nd Anniversary Party

Antone’s is hosting a celebration party to celebrate its place as an Austin institution for over 40 years. The event will have plenty of local artists that you won’t want to miss, such as the Ian Moore and the Lossy Coils and Jimmy “Duck” Holmes. Now in its original location downtown after its move to the east side several years ago, this is the perfect excuse to go out and experience some local music from artists of all genres.

Mallcops

Coming to the Sidewinder this week is Massachusetts indie rockers Mallcops who perform calming songs that we know you’ll love. With tracks such as “Parks and Alters” there is nothing not to like about Mallcops and their beautiful sound.

Sunday, July 2

Summer Dean

Part of the Sunday Best series at Austin Beer Garden and Brewery, Summer Dean  Fort Worth, Texas performs honest country songs that pull at listeners’ hearts. With songs such as “I Go,” her gorgeous guitar playing and vocals are worth listening to.

Coming Up:

Formula 1 United States Grand Prix featuring Justin Timberlake

Best known for his time with the ’90s boy band N’Sync, the group’s most popular member, Justin Timberlake, is now a successful solo star with ten Grammy’s under his belt. He’s coming to Austin to perform at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in October, where fans will get to enjoy the pop star in one of Austin’s biggest and best venues. Three day passes and one day passes are now available.
