An Anniversary, a Blogiversary, and a Birthday

If you get married in Canada in January, it’s a good idea to wear a short sleeve dress.

Look how long ago I got married – photos were in black and white!  Actually, my photos were mostly white, courtesy of a lovely -3 degree day and a blanket of fresh snow. Fifteen years ago today, I snagged this good looking Canadian boy.  He had no idea what he was in for, poor thing.  But, one colicky baby, one international move, three rowdy Texan boys, and one wild ride of a website later, he’s still holding me together.  Always positive, ever encouraging, and endlessly patient, this man is the reason I am still smiling.  He lets me run around having fun with the kids and doesn’t complain that he doesn’t have any clean socks.  Or dinner. Or a clear path from the door. He’s a good egg and I am so lucky to have him.

2013 is going to be chock-full of milestones in Heidi-land.  Apart from celebrating 15 years of wedded bliss, there will be reunions, a blog birthday, and a special arrival.  Coming as a bit of a shock that I could be so old, I have received invitations to two 20-year high school reunions – one in Australia and the other in Maryland.  And the blog birthday?  Well, it’s tomorrow!  Happy Blogiversary to Free Fun in Austin, started on February 1, 2010.  I had, of course, planned to do something marvelous to celebrate, but got sidetracked when I started tossing cookies.  That would be thanks to the special arrival.  In February, we will welcome baby #5 (just months before our firstborn becomes a teenager).  Never a dull moment over here!  I do like a good adventure.

So, all exciting things, and I am thankful I can share them with you. You have been a great bunch of readers these past three years!  I never cease to be amazed by how many nice comments and messages I receive.  You know that’s not normal in the world of the internet, right?  But, in three years, I have received exactly three mean emails.  I’m just going to go ahead and call that a miracle. I really, really appreciate how consistently kind and supportive the Austin community has been.  It has been a pleasure getting to know so many of you!

Goodness, that sounds like I’m saying goodbye. Free Fun in Austin isn’t going anywhere.  I have a great team that will keep things running smoothly as I get reacquainted with sleep deprivation and diaper duty. Leigh Ann and Katey will run the show as I pull back for the month of February.  You won’t even miss me.  Feel free to email anytime.  There may just be a slight delay in my getting back to you (or possibly the time stamp will say something crazy like 3 a.m.). I’ll be sure to post a photo when our new bundle arrives, and then you can look for future posts on free fun with babies!
