8 Ways To Calm Your Nerves After Voting On Tuesday (Yes, There’s Booze)

It’s 7 p.m., and you’ve done it. You’ve cast your vote and are now awaiting the results to see exactly what the American landscape will look like for the next four years. It may not be exactly what you had hoped for, but at least the disaster that was this election season will be over. And guess what? You deserve to treat yourself just a bit after making it through to the other side. If you’ve managed to cast your ballot early in the day or during early voting, go relax for a bit as those numbers come in. Here are just a few things happening on Tuesday to help you make it through the day.

Grab a Themed Drink at TRACE or W Austin Living Room Bars

Pop in for a drink at W Austin with your “I Voted “ sticker and you’ll receive happy hour pricing at TRACE of Living Room bars, all day long. They’ll even have a few election themed cocktails that will look perfect next to your exasperated face in your Instagram selfies.

The Pant Suit
A spin on the traditional smash but with grapefruit juice and bitters. Because this one is a little more bitter than sweet. Red Handed Bourbon, Lemon, Mint, Sugar, Grapefruit juice, Angostura bitters.

The Comb Over
A New York whiskey in a Manhattan style cocktail. It is orange in color with a blond twist of lemon on the top. Hudson Manhattan Rye, Lillet Rose, Sugar, Lemon Twist, Orange bitters.

Fahrenheit ‘84
Combier, Elyx Vodka, Regan’s Orange Bitters, Angostura Bitters

While you’re there, vote for your favorite cocktail for a chance to win a room & VIP reservation to further your post-election relaxation.

They’ll also help you relax with plenty of their themed coloring books “All the President’s Cocktails,” celebrating past presidential drinking habits.

Center Yourself with Yoga and Meditation in front of the Capitol

As part of a national “Elevate the Vote” movement, MedMob is organizing a giant flash mob meditation at the Texas State Capitol, rain or shine. Just grab your yoga mat, water, and something to sit on for meditation and head down for some Om at the dome. Yoga starts at 4 p.m. and meditation starts at 5 p.m.

If you can’t make it downtown for the actual event, they’ll also be audio broadcasting the event from their website.

Or Maybe with a Smaller Group

If flash mobs aren’t quite your thing for finding inner peace, The Void Martial Arts is hosting a Moon Salutation and Deep Relaxation Yoga Class. It’s donation-based, so you won’t even have to stress out over an expensive class.

Watch and do Some Serious Emotional Eating

Justine’s Brasserie is hosting an election night watch party starting at 7:30 p.m. until they close up shop at 2 a.m. The bar will be very, very open, they’re breaking out the big screen TV, and they are offering up free chicken wings from executive chef Taylor Chambers.

Jo’s Downtown has created some special burgers for election night, and from 6-9 p.m. they’ll be serving them up alongside $3 Shiner and $1 off wine and draft beer while they show the results as they come in.

Relax with the Sounds of Strings

It may not be an election-based event, but what’s more relaxing than spending your lunch break under a light cloud cover, being serenaded by 800+ Austin ISD students from elementary to high school, performing for free at the 43rd Annual Fall String Festival? Stop by the Zilker Hillside Theatre with your lunch and a blanket to support young musicians.

Find Serenity with Succulents

Clear your head and get your hands a little dirty as you create something beautiful to take home. The St. Edward’s Climbing Team is hosting a DIY Terrarium Building activity at the Ragsdale Lawn on campus to raise funds for their team.

Channel Your Energy Into Tossing Some Balls

The Austin Skeeball League meets at Gourmand’s every Tuesday and Thursday, and this Tuesday they’ll probably be drinking a little more than usual as they watch those numbers climb to 270. Join them from 6:30-10 p.m. on Tuesday.
