Summer is in full swing with lots to do in our sunny city. From Independence Day to Lady Bird Johnson’s birthday, there are free events throughout Austin and surrounding areas to keep you smiling through the heat. Choose from a long list of free movies, a family comedy show, and an Austin summer never happens without free music. Stay hydrated and happy next month with these fun family events.

H-E-B Free First Sunday : Stars And Stripes
Sunday, July 1 | from 12 to 5 p.m. | Bullock Museum 1800 Congress Ave.
Enjoy stars and stripes themed snacks, create a mural, and explore the Story of Texas with 3 floors of exhibitions, art, music and more! Exhibition admission is FREE all day.

Celebrate The Fourth Of July At The LBJ Presidential Library
Wednesday, July 4 | from 9 to 5 p.m. | LBJ Presidential Library 2313 Red River St.
Check out the temporary exhibition Get in the Game: The Fight for Equality in American Sports with free admission for all on Independence Day. FREE parking is available in lot #38, right off of Red River St.

H-E-B Austin Symphony July 4th Concert and Fireworks
Wednesday, July 4 | at 8:30 p.m. | Vic Mathias Shores
The Austin Symphony hosts the 41st celebration that remains the largest in the State of Texas. Claim your spot early at Vic Mathias Shores (formerly Auditorium Shores) The Symphony performance begins at 8:30 p.m. with fireworks to follow at approximately 9:30 p.m. Check their site for parking and event information (there’s a lot of it!).

Home Depot Family Workshops Fishing Game
Saturday, July 7 | from 9 to 12 p.m. | Home Depot Stores
When you need a break from the outdoors, reel in the heat at Home Depot with a Fishing Game workshop. The kids will receive a free certificate, apron and commemorative pin while supplies last. Watch an acrobatic hurricane of birds as hundreds of thousands of Purple Martins “swirl” in the skies in and around the roosting site each evening. It’s better than the bats! Binoculars are optional.
