Make Art Together
Remember all of those misshapen clay pieces and painted paper plates you used to bring home to mom in first and second grade? Well she loved those. Reminisce about those years while the two of you reconnect over various art projects at the Austin Art Garage. You can spin pottery together, work with fused glass, paint on canvas, paint mosaics or do all of it. The Art Garage has classes, but is also open for walk-ins.
Food Tour Together
You have probably taken mom out to eat for Mother’s Day countless times. Try something different with a walking food tour. You eat. You walk/group bus. You eat some more. Sounds fun, right? Give Austin Eats Food Tour a try. They have a verity of theme-based walking tours ranging from happy-hour to brunch. You may want to try the South Congress Walking tour, which starts on Sunday’s at 9:30 and lasts until 12:30 PM. The tour includes stopping at four to five eateries. The food begins with breakfast and continues through to a lunch menu. One flat rate covers all over your tasting and when travel is required, your bus cost.
Run for Your Lives Together
Is your mom adventurous? You could invite mom as well as dad and all of the siblings to an hour of panic together. The Texas Panic Room – Austin location – gives its customers several options of fun escapism, literally. From a prison break scenario to a human-trials hospital break environment, the players get 60 minutes in a locked room to figure out a way to escape.
Have High Tea Together
Imagine this: A table setting with fine china, little bitty sandwiches and fragrant tea poured into elegant tea cups. Your mom, perhaps dressed up and even donning a beautiful hat, sitting in front of you asking you to please pass the scones. If this sounds like something your mother would like to spend the a afternoon doing, then the Full English is the place to take her. High Tea is served only after 1:30 PM and must be booked in advance. The standard package runs a flat $15 dollars. There is also a children’s High Tea if you wish to return with the little ones.
Do a Flea and Beer Together
Shop for vintage, one of a kind items while sipping a beer and listening to live music. – Or have your mom shop, while you drink. Either way, check out The ABGB‘s Mother’s Day Flea celebration. The flea market starts at 12:oo PM and lasts until 6:00 PM on May 14.

Spend a few hours of Mother’s Day learning all about champagne with your mom. Of course you will be sampling it as well, so perhaps you two will need a designated driver. Do Yoga and Drink Mimosas Together
No really! The Yomosas Club meets every Sunday at Abel’s on the Lake for yoga followed by brunch and mimosas. Bring your mom at 10:00 AM on May 14 for a good workout and some fun and drinks. It’s $12 for the class, $8 for the brunch and $2 per mimosa.
Laugh/Cry and See a Classic Together
Does your mom enjoy a bit of dark humor? How about a story of an aging Hollywood movie star who abuses her children? Does your mom like drag queens? Say no more! Take her to the Mommie Dearest Roast with Rebecca Havemeyer. The festivities start at 12:15 PM on May 14 at the Alamo Draft House at the Ritz. Yes, you will in fact also be watching Mommie Dearest together.
Celebrate Women in Art Together
The Blanton Museum is doing a special Mother’s Day tour on May 14 at 3:00 PM focusing on women in art. It’s a free event, so you can bring grandma and the aunties to this as well.
