Education Nonprofit Breakthrough Austin Now Able to Support More Students Thanks to $1 Million Donation

Breakthrough Austin is now able to help more students in and around Austin reach their college goals, thanks to a matching donation of $1 million from former Freescale Semiconductor Ltd. CEO Gregg Lowe and his wife Diana. The donation is part of an effort to assist low-income students in a broader geographical area across central Texas whose families are getting priced out of Austin.

From the original Austin Business Journal story:

“Being the first in my family to graduate from a university opened my life to numerous possibilities,” Diana Lowe, who is a Breakthrough Austin board member, said in a statement. “I want to open that doorway to success to many more kids throughout Central Texas to help them reach their potential and achieve their dreams.”

According to the Breakthrough Austin website, their mission is to “provide out-of-school learning and academic case management from middle school through college to students from low-income communities who will be the first in their families to graduate from college.” Their goal this year is to raise $2 million to provide 600 students with academic support and guidance programs.
