Austin Celebrates Holiday HAAM Jam 2013
'Tis the Season to Give Back to Austin’s Musicians
It’s no secret that Austin has the reputation as “The Live Music Capital of the World.” Every year, visitors from all over the globe descend upon our city to experience the best music Austin has to offer, not only during major festivals like SXSW, ACL Fest, and Fun Fun Fun Fest, but all year round. Live musicians are the life blood of our community, bringing an invaluable cultural, artistic, and economic boon to our city. This Christmas, Austinites have the perfect opportunity to give back to the musicians who bring us so much joy during the year.
Created by a community of musicians, health care providers, and other Austinites as a way to give back to the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians, also known as HAAM, Holiday Ham Jam has released their third CD to benefit Austin musicians. HAAM, one of the most beloved organizations in the Austin area, is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing access to affordable health and dental care for Austin’s low-income, uninsured working musicians. The annual Holiday HAAM Jam benefit album began in November 2011 and was the brainchild of Dr. Shane Matt, DDS of Authentic Smiles Dental Studio, musicians Wendy Colonna, Rod Williams and Shelley Mac, Mary McKeown-Christie of Maven Marketing Solutions and producer Mark Addison of The Aerie Studio.

This year, Holiday HAAM, Jam Vol. 3 features holiday songs by some of our most renowned musicians such as Dale Watson, Kendall Beard, Sons of Fathers, and Reckless Kelly. Released just a few weeks ago, the CD is already in the Shiner TX Top 10 at Waterloo Records and is also available on iTunes. One of the most beautiful tunes on the track “Winterlude,” Joe Ely’s version of the famous Bob Dylan song, has already been added to the playlist on KGSR’s “Lone Star State of Mind” and the CD is also on rotation at KOOP Radio and KDRP-FM.

To coincide with the CD, Holiday HAAM Jam will be hosting the Holiday HAAM Jam at Rainey Deer Festival this Sunday, December 15th, from 12-7pm. For just ten dollars, music fans will see live performances from 25 of Austin’s hottest live bands such as Graham Wilkinson and JT from Not in the Face!, The Belle Sounds, Grace London, Dave Madden, Barbara Nesbitt of The Whiskey Sisters, Bill Carter, More Cowbell, and Roxy Roca. Venues like The Blackheart, Bungalow, Lustre Pearl, and Craft Pride will be participating in the event, and all proceeds from the festival and the CD will go directly to HAAM. The event is 21+.
