Look Out, Austin - Taco Bell Will Soon Sell Breakfast Tacos

Breakfast tacos have been an Austin institution for ages. How will Taco Bell's new menu items fare in a town notoriously picky for these morning treats?

While Austin is known for its excellent food - from Tex-Mex to BBQ to steaks to healthy vegetarian cuisine - it can be difficult to single out what could be considered a "signature dish". While Texas has chili, of course, that's more of a state-wide phenomenon. The closest the city comes to that, it seems, is the beloved breakfast taco. Whether it's grabbing a quick bite before work or needing something to fight that Sunday morning hangover, just feels like it belongs to Austin.

Despite the fact that they're fairly quick and easy to make, the closest Austin has gotten to a fast food breakfast taco is Taco Cabana. Which has been fine for Austinites for a while now, as they typically like to support more local establishments. Besides, it's not as if Taco Cabana is Taco Bell, now is it?

By now, you've probably realized where I'm going with this.

This afternoon, Yum! Brands announced that Taco Bell would soon have two new breakfast items on their menu. As of March 27th, you'll be able to pull up to a Taco Bell drive through and order not just the traditional breakfast tacos and burritos, but also the Waffle Taco ("a warm waffle wrapped around a hearty sausage patty or flavorful bacon, with fluffy scrambled eggs and cheese, and served with a side of sweet syrup")or the A.M. Crunchwrap, which is like their standard Chrunchwrap, but filled with eggs and sausage and stuff.

There are nearly 6,000 Taco Bell locations across the country. It's a good possibility that a lot of Austinites, as much as they want to support their local favorites, might choose convenience when they're in a hurry.
