4 Romantic Restaurants For Valentine's Day
You might need to make reservations *now*, but these are four spots in Austin that can make your Valentine's Day extra special.
While the more cynical among us may dismiss Valentine's Day as a purely commercial exercise, there are still plenty of folks out there who enjoy it immensely. If you're in the group and want to make the upcoming holiday extra special, we have four suggestions for restaurants that can help make that happen for you.
These picks were selection based on personal experience as well as reviews and rankings on Yelp.
Keep in mind, you may want to make reservations at any of the locations as soon as possible, as they will probably book up pretty quickly.
Chez Nous - 510 Neches St. - (512) 473-2413 - What Yelp has to say
If the French are known for anything- aside from their unjustified reputation for military cowardice - it's romance. Some of France's most enduring celebrities, from Brigette Bardot to Vincent Cassell to Pepe LePew - all have made many a viewer's go a-flutter. So, what better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than at one of Austin's finest French restaurants.
While a bit pricey, the setting is intimate and relaxing and the food is exceptional. They don't take reservations so if possible you may want to make this your first stop of your Valentine's evening.
Wink - 1014 N Lamar Blvd. - (512) 482-8868- What Yelp has to say
Just a bit away from Downtown Austin, Wink is an cozy, intimate restaurant that, for some reason, always feels like a work in progress. Despite that (or maybe because of it), it's still a great spot to celebrate a special occasion. You'll want to be sure to call in for a reservation, as tables fill up quickly.
When you arrive at your determined reservation time, you'll find the day's menu (it changes daily) customized with the name of you and your companion, as well as an appropriate message ("Happy Valentine's Day", "Happy Anniversary", "Happy Arbor Day", etc.). You'll be able to keep said menu as well as have it autographed by the chef who prepared your meal. But, they better not catch you trying to sell that on eBay!
They also have a stellar wine selection and the wait staff is particularly friendly and attentive.
Vino Vino - 4119 Guadalupe St. - (512) 465-9282- What Yelp has to say
Nestled away in the Hyde Park neighborhood, Vino Vino boasts some great food, an amazing wine selection, and possibly the most knowledgeable and attentive waitstaff in the city.
With its soft lighting and trendy but relaxing music selection, this is an excellent location to not only take that special someone somewhere special, but the noise level is just low enough that you can have a conversation without screaming over the crowd. Vino Vino also takes reservations, and we highly suggest you take them up on it.
Driskell Grill - 604 Brazos St. - (512) 391-7162 - What Yelp has to say
If you're looking to include both class and a sense of Austin history into your evening plans, the Driskell Grill located in the Driskell Hotel downtown is a prime spot. Since 1929, this Austin institution has provided the setting for many Valentine's Day dinners and first dates for decades - including, allegedly, the first date between former President Lyndon B. Johnson and his wife.
The Driskell Grill has been ranked by Zagat as one of their top 25 hotel restaurants and is a great choice if you're looking to have Valentine's Day night in the city.
So, those are just four - there's lots of romantic spots in the city to choose from. Tell us about your favorites in the comments.
