12 Austin Sports Twitter Accounts You Should Follow

Austin is both a huge sports town and a big time tech haven. So, let's combine the two, shall we?

Back in November, we ran a list of Twitter accounts every Austinite should know. You guys seemed to like it.

With the NBA season in full swing, baseball just around the corner, the Super Bowl less than a month away and the University of Texas getting themselves a new football coach, we couldn't help but come down with SPORTS FEVER™. So, in light of that, here's 15 Austin-based sports-centric Twitter accounts you can follow.

Austin Sports teams

Austin's heart may belong to college sports, but there's still plenty of pro teams in town to enjoy. Here's some of their Twitter accounts so you can follow them, even if you can't make it to any of their games

Texas Stars (@TexasStars)- Part of the farm system of the NHL's Dallas Stars, the Texas Stars provide exciting hockey action just north of Austin in the Cedar Park Center.

Round Rock Express (@RRExpress) - See the future stars of the Texas Rangers play ball or, if you can't make it to Dell Diamond, you can at least follow the team here.

Austin Toros (@AustinToros) - The NBA has a developmental league as well. It's true. Follow Austin's NBA D-league team, the Toros, right here.

Austin Sports Writers & Broadcasters

Our city certainly doesn't suffer from a lack of highly opinionated sports fans. Some of them even get paid to share said opinions. Here's just a few of them.

Cedric Golden (@CedGolden) and Kirk Bohls (@KBohls) - OK, granted, this one is kind of a cheat as we mentioned them in our previous article. But the Austin-American Statesman's resident sports scribes deserve a second mention. Check them out!

104.9 FM The Horn (@1049TheHorn) - Also available on 1260 AM, The Horn is Austin's ESPN Radio affiliate. As they mention in their bio, anything you tweet at them can be used on the air or any other media. But, that's why you tweeted them in the first place, right?

Chase Hoffberger (@Hoffberger) - The Austin Chronicle has a great staff of sports writers, but Chase is our favorite.

College sports

This list wouldn't be complete without some college sports accounts, now would it? No, it would not!

Texas Longhorns sports (@TexasSports) - Hook 'em! Whether you're a football, baseball, basketball or fan of any other UT sport, this is the account to follow.

Burnt Orange Nation (@PBatBON) - Burnt Orange Nation is SBNation.com's University of Texas fan site. It's pretty dope, yo.

Other accounts

Here's some other accounts that sports fans might find interesting.

Austin SSC (@AustinSSC) - The Austin Sports and Social Club. If you're interested in participating in adult co-ed sports and fitness in town, this is the group you want to look to.

Austin Sports (@sportsaustin) - The Austin Sports Commission is dedicated to bringing as many high profile sporting events to town as possible.

Austin Cycling Association (@AustinCycling) -  To an outsider, it would seem that all Austinites own two things. The first is at least one dog. The second is a bicycle. Biking is big in our town. This is the account to follow if that's you.
